We are working with a lovely SEND Primary School in Basingstoke who are looking for a Teacher to start in September 2024, for a Yr 1 & 2 class of children who have Severe Learning Difficulties, many of the children also have Autism, so the successful candidate will have experience of this, along with writing Health Care Plans and working closely with other agencies and professionals to provide individual child care and education.

The position is for a maternity cover and would be for 1 year, and paid to scale.


Responsibilities:

  • Teaching the Yr 1& 2 curriculum with pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties & Autism

  • Encourage and enable pupils to express preferences, communicate needs, make choices, make decisions and choose options that other people act on and respect.

  • Develop enjoyment of learning, using a creative approach, encouraging high levels of achievement and attainment.

  • Enabling pupils to interact and communicate with a wide range of people.

  • Recognise and encourage individual talents; seeking the maximum development of each pupil through personalised programmes.

  • Develop personal self-confidence and self-esteem based on a variety of successful experiences.

  • Assisting with lunch or break cover if required

  • Making sure safeguarding is at the forefront of your mind.

  • To support any Teaching Assistants to carry out their duties effectively.

  • To maintain records accurately and methodically as instructed by the Headteacher or laid down in the schools policies and procedures.

  • To actively contribute towards the maintenance of a positive culture within the school, in which teamwork thrives.

  • To take responsibility for your own Health and Safety at work, and to report any Health and Safety matters.

  • To demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.


Requirements:

  • QTS or equivalent

  • Some experience within the SEND school sector

  • DBS Enhanced Disclosure

  • References will be required

  • A passion for working with local SEND schools, to help maintain standards

  • Play a key role in the children's learning and development

  • A good knowledge of SEND pupil requirements

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, verbal and non-verbal, written, listening and advocacy

  • Ability to establish appropriate relationships with young people and other professionals

  • Be reliable, enthusiastic, creative and honest

  • A sound theoretical knowledge of various SEND teaching practices

  • Ability to understand the impact of your own feelings and practice and how this can affect the working environment

  • Knowledge of Child Protection procedures relating to young people

  • Ability to work effectively within a team and encourage a positive team approach

  • Ability to engage all students

  • Ability to advocate for pupils and enable them to advocate for themselves

  • Effective recording, filing and information sharing skills
